I agree Jennifer...that's kind of my point. Even if we want to say the cutting edge technology the wealthy elite have access to eventually trickles down to the general population, we're still talking about centralizing the power and freedom that comes with cutting edge technology. If technology is going to be the thing that saves humanity or serves to "de-stratisfy" human society, then all human beings need to have equal access to it--which also means (because I face this issue all the time) education in how to use the technology.

Thoughtful post. At some point, I would think, people have to be able to buy all of the products that technology provides us. So if too many people are left behind, the system no long works. A democratic society's obligation, in my opinion, is to education its members.
